Houston

This 4th of July we had planned on vacationing to CO. However, with going out to help out Heidi and AJ after his back surgery that fell through. Jon had been gone on TDY, or  had been going to NE back and forth since Jon's winging and we needed a break. Luckily for us our wonderful friends JJ and Kelli were up in Houston and happy to have us join them.
We arrive Sunday evening to Kelli's place, and were treated to a last minute but very good meal of Beef Strogonoff. It was wonderful to catch up and enjoy good company. The morning of the 4th of July came and it was our turn to help out as we made the french toast for the morning. it was a action filled day! Started out with the pool game "10". Kind of like football and ultimate Frisbee. The guys loved it when we got into an amazing struggle of chic power. It was intense...like camping. Then it was off to lunch. We tried a place called Barnaby's: great food and great service! Then we were maybe a little too full, but ready or not we went for rock climbing. It had been a long time for Jon and I, I could feel it. Need to work on those arms! but good times, good times!
Then it was off to the park for a outdoor concert and the big fireworks show. There was sandwiches and drinks provided by the young single adults, and we did indulge. We also got quite a few involved in a game of catch phrase. The concert was fun and the fireworks were wonderful! By then we were all exhausted and were very ready to head back to the apartment and crash for the night.

The next day was also full of good times. Kelli had a photo shoot, and JJ went to work....so Jonny and I had our own adventures. We got to go to the Houston temple. The Houston temple is only about 30-40 minutes farther than the San Antonio temple is, but we had never been. It was very beautiful and a perfect way to round out the weekend. As Jonny tells me, there is no better way to make me sappy than taking my back to the temple. Then we grabbed a quick bite to eat and went window shopping at some of the nearby shops. When we knew it would be safe to head back to the apartment we again met up with JJ and Kelli.

They had a great idea for the evening... to see the museum of natural history! We enjoyed that very much....Monika especially liked all the gems and crystals. We hung out there until closing time.

We left Wednesday morning after getting cupcakes from Kelli's favorite spot. it was a great little get away amid all the crazy!

To see Kelli's pics from the day see her blog (her pictures are professional....not often that we have a photographer follow us around for a random holiday...hehehe....Thanks Kelli!)
